Risks of Tattooing

Allergic Reactions

There have been cases where the tattoo pigments and ink have caused allergic reactions, but such cases are very rare. Though these cases seldom happen but when they do they can be really problematic as it is very hard to remove the pigments. Normally, the treatment for this problem is laser surgery. Even after surgery it might be the case that the problem persists for many months. Laser surgery also helps the immune system to flush out the pigments and this process may take several months to complete.

Formation of Keloids

Keloids are scars, which you can get when you are getting yourself tattooed. This also depends on the fact that how susceptible you are to getting Keloids. More vulnerable you are then more are the chances that you will get it when being tattooed. Some studies reveal that there are more chances of getting keloids when the tattoo is being removed. Keloids are formed due to a trauma and experts state that getting a tattoo made or having it removed is a kind of trauma.

These are kind of nodules. It is normally formed around tattoo pigment particles.

Complications in MRI

Cases have been reported that people who had tattoos felt burning and swelling in the tattooed area when they were undergoing MRI. Experts are still not sure that why this happens. The best thing is to inform the radiologist well in advance about your tattoo before he performs and MRI.
